What's Poppin' (2018) < work in progress >

Whats Poppin

Synopsis: Two prehistoric birds discover the wonders of popcorn by accident and decided to use it to their advantage.

What's Poppin' is an animation project with work in progress.

Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro were used for the animation and editing.

The ending twist was inspired through the fact that a large percentage of profits from cinema businesses comes from concession sales. As pop culture has shaped our experience of watching movies in the cinema to be best paired with snacks/drinks, theatre companies have purposely hiked up the prices on cinema snacks despite their low cost for a huge return in profits.

Thus to emphasise the symbiotic relationship between popcorns and profits, the sound effect of a popped corn kernel was also used repetitively in other areas:

  • when the big bird got the idea to open a movie theatre

  • when coins appear in the same sequence as the popcorns
